The latest computer forecast models have cast their ballots for Hurricane Joaquin to move well out to sea, away from the US east coast. Let’s send our prayers for the people in parts of the Bahamas who have been in winds from a major hurricane for over a day now.
But, wait, there’s more! For the east coast, more rain, more wind, more coastal flooding.
Joaquin’s been squeezing up against the strong high pressure system to the north, tightening the pressure gradient, pumping tropical moisture over an old frontal system which will wring out the moisture like a sponge, and sustained winds from offshore pushing up water on east coast beaches.
The local national weather service offices are on top of all this – check their forecast, watches and warnings for the timing and strength of these events.
