Dark skies at the Summer Star Party

I’m at the Summer Star Party in the Berkshires, run by the Rockland Astronomers. The skies are very dark! The Milky Way (thousands of stars that look like a cloud stretched across the sky) is easy to see, as well as the dark lanes that run through the Milky Way (the darker areas in the Milky Way are dust clouds that block of our view of stars in the Milky Way).

Here’s a photo [taken with my new 50mm F/2 lens – thanks to Erin and Dade!] of the light and dark parts of the Milky Way….

The 'clouds' to the upper right are stars in the milky way, with dark lanes due to dust clouds. The cloud to the lower left is in our atmosphere.

Another view of the teapot, where the stars of the teapot are easier to see, due to due on the camera lens fogging up the scene.

Teapot tipping toward the lower right, taken through dew on camera lens.
