The latest NWS map for the NYC area has totals of over 6 inches for much of the area (see below and at http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/stormtotalprecip.php ), but this is a forecast total for the entire storm – Wednesday through Friday!
If you go to the hourly weather pages for your location – check when the snow will fall.
For a location in Westchester County, the amounts are listed as:
Wed 2 to 7pm 0.1 inches
Wed 7pm to Thurs 1am 1.3 inches
Thurs 1am to 7am 0.8 inches
Thur 7am to 7pm 0.8 inches
Thurs 7pm to Fri 1am 1.0 inches
Fri 1am to 7am 1.8 inches
Fri 7am to 1pm 0.6 inches
Fri 1pm to 7pm 0.2 inches
This totals up to about the 6.5 inch storm total on the map.
Remember that we will be close to freezing for much of the storm and some solar radiation gets through even through clouds as the sun is higher in the sky now in March, so these snow amounts are not likely to stay on streets, especially if they are plowed.
