From the National Weather Service Forecast Discussion for the NYC office:
“TWO FORECAST CHALLENGES IN THIS TIME FRAME/ FIRST THE COASTAL LOW
TRACKING TO OUR S/E [southeast] WEDNESDAY NIGHT…
AND SECOND THE POTENTIAL FOR A COASTAL LOW THIS WEEKEND.”
Tuesday – windy and sunny, but stays above freezing
Wednesday – rain in the afternoon, with the evaporating rain chilling the atmosphere to change the rain to snow.
Only a 60% chance of one-tenth of an inch or more, but if we get snow, 3 – 6 inches likely
with the higher amounts in NYC, Long Island and southward and the lower end to the north as the storm passes to our south.
Weekend – timing and amount of snow is uncertain now.
