What do a disorganized snow storm in the upper midwest and a severe storm threat in Houston and gale warnings off the coast of Oregon and southern California have in common?
Like singers coming together in harmony to make a more powerful performance, if these systems come into alignment off the eastern US coast, they will make a powerful winter storm for Friday.
The European model harmonizes the two systems the most, with 12 inches or more of snow from central New Jersey through New England. The US model gives 3 to 6 inches around NYC and more further up the coast, but changing to rain during the day Friday, with most of the snow overnight Friday/Saturday.
Watch for updates from the National Weather Service or your favorite commercial weather provider (the Weather Channel is doing a good description of how these storms could come together to make a major snow storm for the northeastern US.
PS The American GFS model tries harmony again for the east coast on Valentines Day – but let’s not get ahead of ourselves! http://weather.unisys.com/gfsx/gfsx.php?inv=0&plot=hght®ion=us&t=l&expanddiv=hide_bar
