OH, YEAH – Sandy DIDN’T DO ENOUGH DAMAGE?
LET’S HAVE ANOTHER STORM TO REALLY TEST US?
This won’t be as bad as Sandy+, we’ll just get the plus part without the tropical part.
It’s worth noting that in New York, we have a special weather statement advising us to, among other things,
DRINK CLEAN…SAFE WATER AND EAT SAFE…UNCONTAMINATED FOOD;
we have a hard freeze for tonight and it’s not even December yet;
a High Wind Watch for possible wind gusts to 60 mph Wednesday evening, with gusts possible over 50mph from 2pm Wed to 2am Thurs to shake out anything not already on the ground or on power lines;
a possible change/mix to snow due to the cold air we find ourselves in and thanks to strong upper air dynamics.
The snow should not amount to much near the coast, but it’s disconcerting, nonetheless.
When we lost heat and power last week, with only our hot water heater to keep us warm, temperatures in the house were down to 50 on Saturday, before the power returned on Sunday. I don’t know how people still without heat are surviving.
WHAT TO DO?
– Listen to the forecast.
– On Tuesday, plan your day on Wednesday to give yourself time to have a safe route home early enough to avoid the highest winds.
– Watch for loose tree limbs when walking or driving and try (hard to do!) to find route with less overhanging trees.
The Weather Channel and Capital Weather Gang, along with the National Weather Service, have a good take on the storm and the variations that could occur.
