  1. How come no Hurricane Warnings have been posted? It still appears to be Tropical and places like Atlantic City will certainly have CAT 1 Hurricane winds…

    • The NWS decided not to use Hurricane Warnings to avoid confusion in case the storm weakened before becoming non-tropical.
Then they would have had to drop the hurricane warnings on a storm that would still be just as bad. It sends a mixed message at a time when people need straightforward info. So they kept using the local forecast center wind warnings.
Here’s from the latest NHC advisory:

AS NOTED IN PREVIOUS ADVISORIES…TO AVOID A HIGHLY DISRUPTIVE
CHANGE FROM TROPICAL TO NON-TROPICAL WARNINGS WHEN SANDY BECOMES
POST-TROPICAL…THE WIND HAZARD NORTH OF THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING
AREA WILL CONTINUE TO BE CONVEYED THROUGH HIGH WIND WATCHES AND
WARNINGS ISSUED BY LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES.
