Today we’ll have some stormy weather as tropical moisture moves in before a cold front passes through overnight. The storms today are not from Irene, whose effects will arrive overnight Saturday into Sunday. But the cold front is part of the trough of low pressure that would make a channel for Irene to streak up to coast and hit Long Island/New England.
But any more rain will soften the ground and make it easier for strong winds to push down trees if Hurricane Irene comes anywhere near us (forecast to make landfall on Long Island – a short jog to the left and NYC gets a direct hit – hope cooler water makes it only a strong category 1 storm as opposed to the category 3 it is now !!)
